Design and Build of a Semi-Automated Frame Assembly Machine and Screwbridge Machine
Project Summary (part 1)
- Dodd Modular was contracted to create a custom light-gauge steel (LGS) framing machine featuring a unique under/over screw application that simultaneously drives screws into both the top and bottom of the frame.
- The initial requirements were unclear, and the concept of assembling modular wall panels with an over/under screwing mechanism is novel in the industry.
- A creative design was essential to develop a system that constructs and aligns the frames for the over/under screw guns to fasten them securely.
Technological challenges solved
- Ability to handle varying weight of panels
- Ergonomic design to fit within the client’s factory
- Ability to handle uneven weight distribution
Project Summary (part 2)
- Dodd Modular was contracted to create a custom screwbridge machine for attaching plasterboard sheets to light-gauge steel (LGS) frames.
- This technology is novel within the Modular factory system, making Dodd Modular’s design unique in the industry.
- The project necessitated innovative designs for both mechanical and control systems to feed and align the frames for multiple screw guns to fasten the plasterboards
Technological challenges solved
- Differing sizes of LGS frames through the system
- Minimal manual input whilst in operation
- Ability to consistently set screw positions
