Dodd Modular was contracted to design and build a bespoke handling system for storing and delivering windows to the wall panel build up area for a new UK client British Offsite Limited.
The project included the development and design of the storage and feed system, and the subsequent window fitting system.
The technology in this area – modular wall panel build is particularly new with the factory system being the only one of its kind in Europe. Our system requirements were unknown and new ground within the industry.
Dodd Modular were contracted to provide the design, 3D modelling and ‘first in class’ product development. This included initial and subsequent build and test, followed by the build and commissioning of the developed system.
The project required a new and innovative design of system both mechanically and electronically to move the windows from an upstairs mezzanine storage area. The windows ranged in size from 1m x1m to 4m x4m, weighing up to 350Kg. This requirement was based on new robotic technology that the customer was looking to introduce. This issue had not been solved by the robotics supplier, which was the reason the client approached Dodd Modular.
The resolution of these technological uncertainties was not readily deducible and the design required numerous revisions and significant system development throughout the commissioning processes.
